Triphenylphosphine-based functional porous polymer as an efficient heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of cyclic carbonates from CO2

A novel triphenylphosphine-based porous polymer (TPDB) with a high Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface area was synthesized through Friedel-Crafts alkylation of triphenylphosphine and α-dibromo-p-xylene. Then, the functional hydroxyl groups were successfully grafted onto the polymer framework by post modification of TPDB with 3-bromo-1-propanol (BP) and triethanolamine (TEA). The resulting sam...

Simple and efficient synthesis of cyclic carbonates using quaternized glycine as a green catalyst.

Microwave-assisted quaternization of glycine (GLY) resulted in the synthesis of an efficient catalyst, quaternized glycine (QGLY), for the solventless synthesis of cyclic carbonates from epoxides and CO2 under mild reaction conditions. Density functional theory was used to simulate the synergistic influence of the COOH group and the halide ion of QGLY in enhancing the catalytic activity.

Highly efficient synthesis of cyclic carbonates from CO2 and epoxides over cellulose/KI.

Cellulose/KI is a very active, selective, stable, and recyclable catalyst for the cycloaddition reactions of CO(2) and epoxides due to the excellent synergetic effect of cellulose and KI. It is found that the hydroxyl groups on the vicinal carbons of cellulose play a key role for the very high efficiency of the catalyst.

Microwave-assisted synthesized SAPO-56 as a catalyst in the conversion of CO2 to cyclic carbonates.

SAPO-56 crystals were synthesized via microwave heating. The resultant crystals displayed high catalytic activity in the synthesis of chloropropene carbonate from CO2 and epichlorohydrin. The enhanced catalytic activity of SAPO-56 crystals was related to their high CO2 adsorption capacity, small crystal size, and the presence of acid sites.
